Alvin J. Cypher, age 80, died Tuesday evening, September 28, 2010 at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo.

Born December 8, 1929 in Cabot, Butler County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marie Geislier Cypher.

He was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant with the 1st Calvary.

He married the former Juanita Risch on March 17, 1952. She survives.

Mr. Cypher was the manager of Citizens Utilities for 27 years and owner/operator of Snug Harbour Restaurant from 1968 until last year, retiring due to his health. He was of the Catholic faith.

He was a former member of the VFW, Loyal Order of MOOSE and the Lions Club, all of New Bethlehem.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters: Penny Heatherington and her husband, Rea, of Denver, Colorado and Pamela Kunselman and her husband, Terry, of Hawthorn; One son, Preston Cypher of Fairmount City; Five grandchildren: Andrea Throm, Ron Kunselman, Ryan Kunselman, Nolan Cypher and Logan Cypher; one great grandson, Liam Throm; Two brothers: Gerald Cypher of Butler and Virgil Cypher of Cabot; Three sisters: Shelva (Chub) Greagory of Butler, Gloria Schnur of Herman and Susan Beer of Renfrew; Numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Donald Cypher.

At Al’s request, there will be no visitation.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be given in Al’s name to the Clarion/Forest VNA, P.O. Box 668, Knox, PA 16232 or Brookville/New Bethlehem Home Health Care, 240 Allegheny Blvd., Suite M, Brookville, PA 15828

The Rupert Funeral Home in New Bethlehem is in charge of arrangements.

Farmington Twp. VFD responded to the scene to a one-vehicle accident at 10:48 A.M. on September 28, 2010. The accident occurred on Tylersburg Rd. in Farmington Township. Minor injuries were reported.

Stonehouse Rd. Accident
New Bethlehem VFD responded to a vehicle accident on Stonehouse Road in Clarion, PA. at 12:48 P.M. on September 27, 2010.

Commercial Fire Alarm
Clarion firefighters responded to a commercial fire alarm in Clarion at 8:09 P.M. on September 23, 2010.

Fallen Tree
Farmington VFD responded to a fallen tree on Forest road in Leeper, PA at 6:08 P.M. on September 23, 2010.

Commercial Fire Alarm
East Brady, Rimersburg, and Sligo firefighters responded to a commercial alarm on Main St. in Rimersburg, PA at 11:36 P.M. on September 22, 2010.

Police Calls: $250,000 Stolen From 86-year-old Woman

$250,000 Stolen From 86-year-old Woman
Clarion-based State Police report that an estimated $250,000 was stolen from an 86-year-old Sligo woman. The money was reportedly stolen over a period of five years. Police say that a suspect is in custody. The suspect, a 56-year-old Knox man, is being held in Clarion County Prison in Shippenville.

Sligo Accident
Police report that a 27-year-old Sligo man lost control of his car and struck a utility pole at 2:25 A.M. on September 25, 2010. The accident occurred on Rt. 68 in Monroe Twp.

Monroe Twp. Accident
Police report a two-vehicle accident on Rt 68 in Monroe Twp. at approximately 3:40 P.M. on September 24, 2010. Police report that Joseph M. Sutkowski, Jr.,22, of Clarion, was traveling along Rt. 68 when his Kawasaki motorcycle struck a car from behind. The car was driven by Ryan C. Adamiak, 23, of McKees Rocks. There were no major injuries reported.

Indecent assault
Police are investigating an alleged indecent assault that took place at A-C Valley high school. The alleged offense(s) took place between April and June.

Women Facing False Report Charges in Rape Case
Police report that Shippenville woman falsely accused a man of rape. The woman filed charges on September 20, 2010. After investigating, police determined that the allegations were false.

Dog Reported Stolen in Clarion
Police report that a puppy was stolen from a residence at Woodland Trailer Court in Clarion Twp. on September 23, 2010 at 3:30 A.M.

Drug Bust
Police discovered several marijuana plants at a Knox resident on September 23, 2010.

Jean Ann Bell, 45, Brookside Lane, Brookville, died Monday at Brookside Assisted Living.
She was born March 25, 1965, in DuBois, a daughter of Thomas J. Guthridge Sr. and Donna J. Huston Guthridge of DuBois. They survive.

She was a 1983 graduate of Clearfield Area High School and a graduate of Pennsylvania Academy of Cosmetology.

Prior to her illness, she was a beautician.

She enjoyed rock music and Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Survivors include two sisters, Kristen Guthridge (Steven) Mazzaferro of Reynoldsville, Kari L. Guthridge of DuBois; a brother, Thomas J. (Christy) Guthridge Jr. of DuBois; two nieces and one nephew.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home, DuBois. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Kevin Bockus officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Brookside Assisted Living, 49 Brookside Lane, Brookville, PA 15825 or DRMC Hospice, 100 Hospital Avenue, DuBois, PA 15801. Edward L. Gilmore, 66, a resident of Clintonville for the past 40 years, passed away at 11:00 A.M. Monday September 27, 2010, at his home after an extended illness.

Born March 5, 1944, in Irwin Township, Venango County, he was the son of Paul Gilmore and Vivian Hoffman Gilmore.

Ed was married March 3, 1966, to the former Beverly J. Huff, and she passed away Sept. 11, 2006.

Ed was employed at Adobe Strip Mining in Wesley as a drill operator. He also was employed at Hovis Trucking in Grove City as a truck driver.

He was a state member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion Meals Hoffman Post #912 of Clintonville.

Ed enjoyed fishing, riding his scooter and loved being with people and helping them.

He is survived by three children, Edward LeRoy Gilmore and his wife, Kathy, of Clintonville, Diane L. Hoffman and husband, Robert J., of Harrisville and Daniel R. Gilmore of Clintonville; his grandchildren, Andrew J. Hoffman of Harrisville, Amanda and Amber Gilmore of Clintonville and Amber Grace of Clintonville; and a great-granddaughter, Sofia DeMeo of Clintonville.

Also surviving is a brother, John Gilmore of York; a half sister, Bev Burrell of Grove City; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Donald Gilmore; and brother, Walter Gilmore.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville.

A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rob Guy from the Barkeyville Church of God officiating.

Interment will take place at the Old Log Cemetery.
