Phyllis E. Sapp, age 69 of Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Grove City, PA died 11/29/10 at the Grove City Hospital. Born in Nelson, Ohio on 2/21/41, Father, Arthur Culp, mother, Anna Solitis Culp, both preceded her in death.

She was married to Carl Sapp on 4/12/1959 in Chesterfield, SC and he survives.

Mrs. Sapp was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ Church in Sharon, PA.

Surviving are her husband Carl of Grove City, two Sons, James Sapp and his wife Anita of Grove City, Michael Sapp and his wife Louise of New Castle, PA, two grandchildren, Heather Ann and Emily Grace Sapp. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Frank and Douglas Culp and a sister, Evelyn Hubbard.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Sat. 12/11/10 at the Sharon Church of Christ, 370 Sunset Blvd, Hermitage, PA 16148 with Sperry Hogue as the minister.

Memorials may be made to the Orchard Manor Nursing Home, 20 Orchard Dr, Grove City, PA. 16127.

Patricia A. Johnson

Patricia A. Johnson, age 80, of Halyday Street, Oil City, died at 9:02 p.m. on Thursday, November 25, 2010, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

Born March 17, 1930, in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Horvace Rice.

Mrs. Johnson was a 1948 graduate of Oil City High School.

She was of the protestant faith.

She enjoyed camping, spending time at her summer home in Fawn Acres, near Newmansville, and enjoyed the companionship of her beloved cat, ‘Duder.’

Mrs. Johnson was employed by Quaker State Refining Corporation in Oil City, where she worked in the orders department.  She retired from there in 1988 after more than 25 years of service.

She was married in Trinity Methodist Church in Oil City by the Rev. George Giles on December 24, 1975 to Harry L. Johnson, who survives.

Also surviving are four children, Pamela Taft and husband Denny of Oil City, Mariam Houston of Oil City, Phillip Smith of Oil City, and Brian Smith and wife Teresita of Joliet, Illinois; four step-children, Gustof H. Johnson and wife Mary of Clarion, Michelle L. Smith and husband Steve of Florida, Gwendolyn Riter of Wyoming, and Zelma Johnson of Wyoming; seventeen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.  Three sisters, Betty Slater of Oil City, Donna Bothum and husband George of Florida, and Sandra K. Vitello of Logansport, Indiana.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an adopted son, Bobby Smith.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.

Rev. Linda Deeter, chaplain at the Caring Place in Franklin, will officiate.

Interment will take place in Grove Hill Cemetery in Oil City.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Donald Lewis Miller

Donald Lewis Miller, age 78, of North 5th Ave, Clarion, died 11/27/10 at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with family members at his side. He was born Jan. 17, 1932 in Corsica, PA, a son of Clair L. “Crab” Miller and, Dorothy E. Kessler Miller.

Mr. Miller attended Clarion-Limestone schools where he graduated in 1951.  He entered the U.S. Army Reserves in 1950 and then enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1952.  Mr. Miller completed his basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas, and radio school at Keesler AFB in Mississippi.  He then received orders for Project Evil and traveled onboard the U.S.S. Mitchell to Japan, then went onto Korea where he served at K-55 Air Base OSAN with the 8th Air Force, 728 Command Squadron for one year.  Mr. Miller then returned to the U.S. where he was stationed at Donaldson AFB in Greenville, SC.  During that time, he traveled throughout the southern states setting up radio sites until he was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sargeant.  Fifty year later, Mr. Miller was awarded the Korean War Service Medal.

Mr. Miller worked at Owen-Illinois in Clarion where he retired after 43 years.  During that time, he served as president of the GBBA, Production Maintenance union.  He was promoted to the position of transportation manager, then chief scheduler and finally to service manager.

Mr. Miller married his wife, the former Loretta Grady, in 1954.  Together they have 5 children, 12 grand-children and 1 great-grand-daughter.

In addition to his wife Loretta, Mr. Miller is survived by his sons, Richard and his wife Kim of Hopkins, MI, Dale and his wife Cindy of Aliquippa, PA, John of Franklin, PA, and Jerry of Lynchburg, VA.  Mr. Miller’s daughter, Cynthia and her husband Mark reside in Clarion.  Grand-children include Simon, Danny, Madison and Gabby; Beth and her husband Josh, Suzzi and her husband Alan, Michelle; Jason, and Stacey; Daniel and Robin and her husband Robert, and Dylan.  Mr. Miller has one great-grand-daughter, Mara.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, 7 siblings, and two grand-sons, Nicholas Fox of Clarion, and Nathaniel Miller of Franklin.

The family will receive visitor from 2-4 and 7-9 on Tuesday, November 30, at the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarion.  Funeral services will held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 1 in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Daryl Larsen, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion officiating.  Full military honors will be performed by the Clarion American Legion Post 66 just prior to the funeral.  Interment will follow at the Strattanville Cemetery.

Bertha Louise Altman

Bertha Louise Altman, 81, of Piney Lane, Knox, died on Saturday evening, November 27, 2010 at her home.

Born on November 30, 1928, in Salem Township, she was the daughter of Ruth Nevel Barris Eisenhuth and Howard Barris.

She was married on July 12, 1947 to George Altman, who survives.

Mrs. Altman was a homemaker.  She enjoyed reading, baking, cooking, gardening, and flowers.  She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchild.

She is survived by four children, July Boorech and her husband, Larry, of Knox; Richard Altman of Knox; Sherry Stroup and her husband, Bill, of Strattanville; and Barbara Veronesi and her husband, Tom, of Seminole.

Also surviving is six grandchildren, Debra Boorech, Brian Boorech, Stacy McNaughton, Budd Stroup, Nicholas Veronesi, and Guilia Veronesi, and one great grandchild, Jonathon Harris.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be no visitation.  A private memorial service will be held for the family.

The Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion is handling the arrangements.

Marilee A. Wolfe, age 46 of Duck Rd, Summerville, PA. died 11/27/10 at the Shadyside Hospital in PGH. She was born in Clarion on 6/26/64. Her father was, Leonard Smith, who survives and her mother, Laverne Campbell Smith who preceded her in death.

Marilee worked for Beverage Air in Brookville, married on 6/26/1996 to Wayne C. “Woody” Wolfe of Summerville who survives.

She enjoyed spending time with her husband on their farm, her family camping, riding motor cycles and her animals. She was also an avid horseback rider. She was a strong happy woman who inspired and encouraged all who knew and loved her.

Surviving in addition to her father Leonard Smith of Summerville and her husband Wayne “Woody” Wolfe of Summerville is a daughter Emileigh and her husband Ryan Colville of Reynoldsville, a son Clayton and his wife Kayla Burford of Brookville, two step daughters Jennifer and her husband Roger Martz of Brookville, Any and her husband Jon Guth of Brookville, one brother, Ronald (Reb) Smith of Summerville, five grandchildren, Adam Martz, Laina Colville, Emily Martz, Leah Colville and Whitney Gouth. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lavern Smith and her step mother Marie (Rose) Smith.

There will be no visitation and services will be private. Memorials may be made to the Hilman Cancer Center, 5115 Centre Ave, PGH, PA. 15232.
