Byron “Bud” Barnett

Byron (Bud) Ellwood Barnett, age 87, of New Bethlehem, died Wednesday morning, February 8, 2012 shortly after becoming ill with pneumonia.

Born April 4, 1924 in Porter Township, Clarion County, he was a son of the late Joseph Parker Barnett and Eva Stewart Barnett.

Bud was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II.

He married the former Florence Willison on September 4, 1948 and remained her devoted husband for 63 years.

Through the years Bud worked as a mechanic for Hetrick’s Farm Supply and R & H Trucking, a diesel mechanic for C & K Coal Company, a supervisor for Penn DOT and was a Porter Township Supervisor.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #522 of New Bethlehem, the Seminole Rod and Gun Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, his cats, spending time in his garage and most of all, the time he spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Florence and two daughters: Cheryl Burford and her husband, Brent, of Brookville and Deborah Barr and her husband, Dick, of Distant; Five grandchildren: Eric Burford, Sean Schoeffel, Erin Burford McKillip, Keli Schoeffel and Kara Burford Johnston and his pride and joy, great grandsons, Parker Ellis McKillip and Brant Eric McKillip.

Also surviving is his baby sister, Ilene Crawford.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters and a brother: Marie McEwen, Irene Magness, Harriet Shoemaker Reichard, Maxine Wolcott and Joseph Barnett.

Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Rupert Funeral Home, 301 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 in the funeral home. Reverend Ben Shindledecker will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Herman Cemetery, Porter Township.
