Paul A. Weaver

Paul A. Weaver, age 83 of Sunset Dr, Clarion, PA died on February 15, 2012 at the Clarion Hospital after an extended illness.

Born, June 20, 1928 in Clarion, PA, he was the son of the late Walter and Ann Eckel Weaver. Paul was married to Mary Clare Dougherty who preceded him in death on July 17, 2011.

Paul was owner and operator of the Paul A. Weaver Jewelry Store that he started in Knox as a small store moving to Main St, Clarion December of 1968.

Paul was active in the Clarion area serving as Clarion Boro Mayor from 1970 to 1977, Clarion Boro Council from 1984 to 1988 and from 1989 to 1993. He served on the Clarion Area Sewer Authority, Clarion Hospital Board of Directors, Chairman for Clarion Fire House improvements, Clarion University Board of Trustees. He also served on the Mellon Bank Board of Directors.

Paul was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion.

He served as a Delegate for the Democratic Convention in Chicago in 1968, and was a candidate for Congress.

He was named by the Clarion Chamber of Commerce as the 1981 Citizen of the year for his long term contributions to the various Chamber functions including Autumn Leaf Festival and the “I Love Clarion” 4th of July Fireworks.

Surviving are four children, two sons; Mike Weaver and his partner John Schaaf of San Francisco CA, Bill Weaver of Clarion, two daughters; Rose Weaver Molder and her husband David of Pittsburgh PA, Clancy Weaver Porciello and her husband Ron of Annapolis MD, five grandchildren; Tessa, Nick and Kyle Porciello, A.J. and Joe Molder, two brothers; George Weaver and his wife Mary Catherine of Mission Hills KS, Mark Weaver of Clarion, two sisters; Margaret Ann Spindler of Denver CO and Mary Ellen Parks and her husband John of Brookville.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Richard Weaver.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8 at the Goble Funeral Home & Crematory in Clarion. A Christian wake service will be held at 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Monday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion with Father Monty Sayers presiding. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to support Paul’s passionate efforts to save the Clarion Community pool which he saw as a great community asset. Donations can be sent to the “Save the Community Pool” Fund c/o Community First Bank, 601 Main St, Clarion PA 16214.
