Rolla Wilmetta Walter, age 83, of Rimersburg, PA passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at her residence.

She was born on March 9, 1928 in Lawsonham, PA, the daughter of John and Flora (Traister) Swartz.

Rolla graduated from Union High School in 1946 and studied two years at Clarion University. For twelve years Rolla worked in the glass field, working two years at Clarion Glass and ten years with Parker Glass. She was a member of the Lawsonham United Methodist Church where she was active in the Cherry Run church camp as the chairperson for crafts for more than 25 years. Rolla was also a 60 year member of the Phoebe Rebekah Lodge No. 123 of Sligo.

Rolla loved to travel and see the country. For the last 30 years she was a snowbird, spending winters in Florida. Crafts were her passion, everything from beads to plastic canvas, creating beautiful keepsakes her family will fondly treasure. She had a gentle smile and a warm laugh for anyone she met and would gladly give of herself whenever possible. Rolla was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who will long be remembered for her selfless nature and her love and compassion for others.

She will be deeply missed by her sons, Jacob Walter and wife Sally of Sligo PA, Drayle Walter of Nuebo, CA, and James Walter of Rimersburg; daughters Flora Bish and husband Robert of Frogtown, PA, Rita Oliver and husband Tony of Conifer, CO, Mary Ann White of Rimersburg, and Jodi Fierst and husband Glenn of Mayport, PA; fifteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel Bearfield and Hazel Craig, both of Rimersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Rolla was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob “Jake” Claire Walter, whom she married November 5, 1947 and shared 47 years of marriage before his passing on December 8, 1994; her parents; brothers Joseph and Jacob Swartz; and sisters Mary and Yvonne Swartz, and Lula Crisman.

Relatives and friends will be received from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 758 Main Street, Rimersburg, PA. A service by the Phoebe Rebekah Lodge No. 123 of Sligo will be presented at 5:45 PM.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11AM on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the funeral home with Pastor Dan George officiating.

Burial will follow at Lawsonham Cemetery, Madison Twp., Clarion Co., PA.

Memorial donations may be made in Rolla’s honor to the Cherry Run Camp, 2855 Cherry Run Road, Rimersburg, PA 16248.
