“Interstate 80 has been the most dangerous roadway in Clarion County, as most would guess,” said Clarion County native David Schwab who grew up in Venus. “But interestingly enough, I-80 West has been approximately 25 percent more dangerous than I-80 East.”
Schwab urges caution when heading west but points out that State Route 66 has had as many crashes as I-80 East and claims almost 10 percent of all crashes that have occurred in Clarion County.
The top 10 dangerous roads of Clarion County have claimed over 60 percent of all crashes that occurred in Clarion County from the past five years.
The top six roads have claimed over 50 percent of all accidents that have occurred in Clarion County over the past six years.
The report lists Clarion County roads with highest crash averages to lowest crash averages and displays them in a map.
“There are 20 roads listed in the report with crash averages from the 5 years of 2008 to 2012,” states the executive summary.
“Methods of analysis include ArcGIS summary and spatial join functions to produce descriptive statistics of Clarion County crashes such as averages and totals. This report finds some Clarion county roads are statistically more dangerous than many others. The study data is supplemented by PennDot 2012 Crash Report. This report encourages safer driving and awareness by showing where most crashes occur in Clarion County.”
