V. Lorraine Truitt

thumbsV. Lorraine Truitt, 78, of Hawthorn, died Monday morning, April 7 at the Clarion Hospital. She was born on February 18, 1936 in Hawthorn and was the daughter of Norman and Evelyn (Boozer) Slagle. She married Edward T. Truitt Sr. on September 11, 1955, and he preceded her in death on March 10, 2011.

Lorraine was a member of the Hawthorn Calvary United Methodist Church. She graduated from Redbank Valley High School in 1954. She worked as a group leader for Rola Jensen Company. She enjoyed cooking and baking, going camping, and crocheting.

She is survived by a daughter, Joyce A. Shearer and her husband Todd of Oak Ridge; two sons, Edward T. Truitt Jr. and his wife Sandy of Grindstone, and Michael A. Truitt of Fairmount City; six grandchildren, Scott Truitt and wife Heather, Brandy Bish and friend Joe Rupp, Leslie Truitt and friend Bill Kriebel, Erin Truitt, Nathan Shearer, and Lisha Shearer; nine great grandchildren, Griffin, Grayson, Shaylee, Baylee, Isaac, Hayley, Kayden, Kayleb, and Garrett; and two sisters, Betty Hewitt of Tennessee and Patricia McQuown of Brookville.

In addition to her husband Edward Truitt Sr., she was preceded in death by both parents, a brother, Gerald Slagle, and a sister, Gail E. Dinger.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 9, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn and on Thursday, April 10, from 10 – 11 at the Hawthorn Calvary United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 11:00 am at the church with her son, Pastor Edward T. Truitt Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Kellersburg Methodist Cemetery, Madison Township, Armstrong County.
