Maxine “Mickey” N. Scannell

maxineMaxine “Mickey” N. Scannell, formerly of Franklin, passed away on Wednesday, April 9th at Wesbury United Methodist Community in Meadville.

Born April 27, 1928 in Cranberry Township, Venango County, Maxine was the daughter of the late George E. and Gertrude Lineman Nunemaker. She was married to George H. Scannell on April 2, 1953 and he preceded her in death on October 11, 2004.

Mickey was a Cranberry High School graduate. She worked at Polk Center as a Personnel Specialist for 36 years. Maxine was a charter member of the Community Church of God in Cooperstown and a member of Morris Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading and knitting, and was known for her “knitted socks”. She also enjoyed her 4-legged companion, Raggs and the times she spent with her family.

Mickey is survived by her brother, Sylvester “Bill” Nunemaker of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Steven D. Scannell; her brother, Rudolph Nunemaker; and her sisters, Martina Meddock, Elsie Davis, and Louise Weckerly.

A memorial service for Mickey will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 at the Community Church of God in Cooperstown, with Rev. Barry Markle, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Maxine’s memory to the Community Church of God in Cooperstown, Wesbury United Methodist Community — 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335. and/or a charity or organization of one’s choice.
