Anderson, Tressler Have Three-Hit Games in Loss

softballEDINBORO, Pa. – Despite Megan Anderson and Christina Tressler each having a three-hit game Saturday, the Clarion University softball team was swept in a PSAC West doubleheader at Edinboro.

The Golden Eagles (1-18 overall, 0-12 PSAC West) lost Game One 3-2 when Edinboro broke a 2-all tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth and then dropped the second contest 4-2 after trailing 4-0 after three.

In Game One, Tressler had a 3-for-3 afternoon that included an RBI double in the fourth that scores Ashley Barenchik with Clarion’s first run getting the Golden Eagles to within 2-1 after Edinboro had scored single runs in the first and third.

Kirsten Wilcox then tied the game in the sixth with her second home run of the season, which was also the second of her career.

But Edinboro scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth off starter and loser Lyndsey Jones to pull out the victory.

Jones pitched well enough to win going six innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out one. It marked the second straight start the freshman from New Bethlehem and Redbank Valley High School has allowed two or fewer earned runs. She has given up just five earned runs in her last 14 2/3 innings of work.

In Game Two, Edinboro struck for two runs in the second and two more in the third to take the 4-0 lead.

Clarion fought back in the fifth when Anderson, who was 3-for-3 in the game with three singles, stole home on the backend of a double steal that saw Casey Wilcox swipe second. It was one of two steals in the game for Anderson.

The Golden Eagles then tacked on a run in the seventh when a Casey Wilcox groundout brought home Shawnna Crago.

Kayla Henderson added a pair of singles in the game for Clarion, while Paige Baker took the loss giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits and two walks while striking out two in five innings of work. Crago pitched a scoreless sixth allowing a hit but also getting a strikeout.

Clarion returns to action at 2:30 p.m. Monday when it hosts Edinboro in a PSAC West doubleheader.
