CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Starting at 12:00 p.m. today, a cross will be carried to and from multiple churches in Clarion.

According to Scott Hauser, Pastor at the First Presbyterian Church, located on Wood Street, this tradition has been going on for “quite a long time.”

After consulting with some church members, Hauser says that it’s safe to say it has been part of the community around 20 years.

The cross carrying will begin at Immaculate Conception Church, and every half hour, it will be carried to another church.

At each stop, there will be a scripture reading, prayer, hymn, and meditation, and a different community member will carry the cross each time.

After stopping at Immaculate Conception, it will be brought to First Baptist Church, then Grace Lutheran Church, Liberty Street Church of God, First United Methodist Church, and its final visit will be the First Presbyterian Church.

The reason for the time frame, Hauser says, is because in Christian Tradition, it is believed that Jesus hung on the cross from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

“I have been pleased to be part of such a visual Christian tradition in the community,” says Hauser.

This event is being sponsored by the Clarion Ministerium.
