CLARION, Pa. — Despite a pair of his by Christina Tressler and a well-pitched game by Paige Baker, the Clarion University softball team was swept by visiting IUP in a PSAC West softball doubleheader Friday.

The Golden Eagles lost Game One 6-0 and Game Two 10-1.

In Game One, Baker pitched well enough to win allowing two runs, both earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out four, in six innings of work. She held IUP scoreless for the first five innings before the Crimson Hawks scored twice against her in the sixth.

IUP then added four runs, three unearned, off Shawnna Crago in the seventh to put the game away.

Tressler, Kirsten Wilcox and Casey Wilcox each had hits in the game for Clarion off IUP starter and winner Alexa Campbell, who allowed just the three hits while striking out six in getting the complete-game victory.

In the second game, IUP scored three in the first and three in the second before adding one in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Clarion’s lone run came in the seventh when Ashley Barenchik doubled and scored on a single by Taylor Powell.

Lyndsey Jones took the loss going seven innings and allowing 10 runs, seven earned, on 17 hits and two walks while striking out five.

Tressler and Elizabeth Shiring also added hits for Clarion.

The Golden Eagles return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when they host Slippery Rock.
