The Red Brick Gallery to Reopen This Friday

FOXBURG, Pa. — The Red Brick Gallery and Shop in Foxburg, Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts (ARCA) artist cooperative is reopening for the 2014 season.

The Red Brick is located at 17 Main Street in “downtown” Foxburg and it will be open on weekends, with new extended hours beginning Friday April 25th till the end of the year.

The artist cooperative is composed of local and regional artists who include painters, weavers, photographers, and potters.

The members in turn all share shifts of gallery time to enable the Red Brick to be open.

This is the fourth season and with several new contributing artists it promises to be an interesting and creative year.

In what has become routine during the year the Red Brick features guest artists in special exhibitions in the Upstairs Gallery.

The first show for 2014, “Oil Portraits of Historic Pittsburgh” for 2014 also opens Friday April 25th and will display the captivating work of Fritz Keck.

Fritz Keck is a Pittsburgh painter who has gained recognition by creating original oil paintings of old historic Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania. He grew up in Edgewood, and after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in industrial design his career took him away from the area to diverse places including Chicago, South Florida, Bahamas and Big Foot, Montana. Ultimately Fritz returned to Pittsburgh and he is now able to devote his time and energy in painting full-time, “something he dreamed about and wanted to do for years”. According to his website…”Using old photos as reference, Fritz brings these images to life in his paintings, allowing his palate to reflect the diversity and uniqueness of the Pittsburgh Region. With practiced brushstrokes, his paintings reveal the vintage character of this distinctive history”.

An Opening reception with an opportunity to meet and visit with Mr. Keck is scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The reception coincides with ARCA’s marvelous afternoon concert at Lincoln Hall presenting the up and coming piano virtuoso Alvin Zhu. The concert begins at 2:00 p.m. With the wonderful spring weather it’s a great combination music and art. Before or after the concert stop by and visit the Red Brick and browse the two floors of artistic creations. Much of the artists work is available for sale and could make unique gifts or can tastefully enhance the home.

More information about the gallery show and Sunday’s April 27th concert can be found on the ARCA web site www.alleghenyriverstone.org .

The Gallery phone number is 724-659-0003, and during open hours will be answered by the current artist at the Red Brick. Callers during non open hours can leave a message for a call back at a later time.

The new extended Gallery hours are Friday Noon to 8:00 p.m., Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
