CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion 9/10 All-Star team opened play on June 30th against East Butler in the PA District 25 9/10 All-Star Tournament with a 15-1 win over East Butler.

The Clarion bats were on fire as the team walked away from the outing with a total of fourteen hits.  Clarion started the game scoring three runs in the first inning on run-scoring hits by Noah DiTullio and Brady Fowkes.

Ryan Hummel led off inning two ripping a double to right center field.  Jordie Hesdon walked, putting runners at first and second, as Chase Kriebel followed by ripping a single, scoring Hummel and Hesdon.  DiTullio grounded into a fielder’s choice, moving Kriebel to third.  Kriebel then scored on a double by Cameron Lapinto.

The third inning continued with excitement from the Clarion lineup as they sent nine batters to the plate, scoring four runs.   Bryson Huwar and Corbin Courson both hit singles and Hesdon walked.  Kriebel stepped to the plate and ripped a bases loaded double of the right center fence, scoring three runs.  DiTullio singled to right, scoring Kriebel.  Clarion finished the half inning leading 10-0.

In the bottom of the third, Kriebel came up with a big diving catch for the first out of the inning.

Clarion sent eight batters to the plate in inning four, scoring five runs.  Jesse Lewis singled and Hummell walked.  Ryan Alston then hit a solid shot up the middle scoring both Lewis and Hummell.  Christian Simko singled and Kriebel walks.

With the bases loaded DiTullio hit a ball back to the pitcher, who attempted to make the play at the plate.  Alston streaked down the third base line to beat the throw and Simko followed close behind as the catcher, who was not able to handle the throw.  Heads-up base running allowed Kriebel  to move to third and DiTullio to second.  With one out in the inning and runners on first and third, Lapinto hit a deep ball to right field.  Kriebel and DiTullio both tag, scoring Kriebel and moving DiTullio to third. East Butler’s shortstop missed the relay and Manger DiTullio sends DiTullio home.  Shortstop Collins for East Butler was able to chase the ball down and make a throw to home getting DiTullio out to close the top half of the inning with Clarion leading 15-1.

Hummel continued his dominate outing on the mound, getting two quick ground outs from East Butler.  The next batter for East Butler, Bower ripped a ball over Lapinto’s head in left field and stretched it for a double.  Simko, executing some great defense, fired a rocket into second base.  Bower had rounded seconded base not expecting a throw, as second baseman Alston realized he was past the bag, he tagged Bower out for the third out of the inning.

Lapinto and Hummell held East Butler to three hits and one run in the outing.  Lapinto pitched two and a third scoreless innings on the mound, striking out five batters and giving up two hits.  Hummell completed the third and fourth innings on the mound, striking out two batters and giving up one hit.
