JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) — Punxsutawney-based State Police say around 12:48 a.m. on July 6, a one-car accident occurred on State Route 3008, south of State Route 3013, Valier Drive, in Perry Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 26-year-old Jacob Hazlett, of Punxsutawney, was traveling east along SR 3008 (known as No. 8 Road) when he failed to negotiate a sharp left hand curve in the roadway.

His 2011 Volkswagen Jetta left the roadway, crossed the east berm, and traveled approximately 15 feet before striking the guide rail along the east side of the road, police say.

The vehicle then traveled approximately 35 feet along the guide rail before it traveled back across both lanes of travel and impacted an embankment. The vehicle came to rest blocking both lanes of travel, according to police.

Hazlett suffered moderate injuries; it is unknown whether he was using a seat belt.

Jefferson County EMS transported him to Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

A passenger in Hazlett’s vehicle — 25-year-old Dustin R. Passmore, of Valier — suffered minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene.

He was using a seat belt.

Perry Township Fire Department and Rebuck’s Towing assisted at the scene.

The accident is under investigation.
