Two People Injured in Collision on Route 899

BARNETT TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — According to Marienville-based State Police, around 10:19 a.m. on July 11, a two-vehicle accident occurred on State Route 899, at its intersection with State Route 36, in Barnett Township, Jefferson County.

Police say 64-year-old Michelle K. Peters, of Leechburg, and 40-year-old Michael F. Gilbert, of Bradford, were involved in the collision.

This crash occurred as a 2006 Kenworth commercial vehicle, driven by Gilbert, was stopped at a stop sign along SR 899 at its intersection with SR 36. As Gilbert was preparing to turn left onto SR 36, a 2008 GMC Envoy, driven by Peters, was also nearing the intersection.

Police say Peters was unable to bring her vehicle to a stop prior to the intersection and struck the rear of the Kenworth.

Peters was using a seat belt and suffered moderate injuries

She was transported from the scene by Jefferson County Ambulance Service.

A 3-year-old female passenger in Peters’ vehicle was using a child safety seat and suffered minor injuries

She was transported from the scene by Shippenville/Elk Township EMS.

Gilbert was using a seat belt and was uninjured.

The 2008 GMC Envoy sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by McPherson’s Auto Body.

The Kenworth was not damaged.

Sigel and Pinecreek Volunteer Fire Departments assisted at the scene.

Charges shall be filed against Peters with Judge Gregory Bazylak of District Court 54-3-03 associated with summary traffic violations.
