SANDYCREEK TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Last night around 6:20 p.m., a pedestrian suffered major injuries after being struck by a vehicle on State Route 8 (Pittsburgh Road), at its intersection with Westview Drive, in Sandycreek Township, Venango County.

According to Franklin-based State Police, 42-year-old Michael L. Nearhoof, of Kennerdell, and 83-year-old Richard B. Mong, of Franklin, were involved in the collision.

Police say this crash occurred as Nearhoof was traveling south on SR 8 when his 2004 Kia Sedona began to negotiate a left hand curve near West View Drive.

The vehicle left the right hand side of the roadway first striking the guard rail then traveling through a yard striking a sign for Jolly Industrial Supply Company. After contacting the sign, the car rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise and continued south through the yard sideways, police say.

The vehicle then struck the front of the residence at 1658 Pittsburgh Road. Mong was sitting on a chair on the front porch of this residence, and the vehicle struck him. He was thrown off the porch, landing in the yard, according to police.

The vehicle then rotated 180 degrees clockwise and rolled onto its drivers’ side coming to rest in the yard.

Nearhoof was using a seat belt and suffered minor injuries; he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Mong suffered major chest and head injuries and was flown to UPMC Hamot.

Charges on Nearhoof are pending lab analysis of his blood.

Sandycreek Fire Department, Community Ambulance, LifeStar Helicopter, and Lowry’s Towing assisted at the scene.
