Local NewsPolice: Driver Distracted by Cell Phone Slams into Utility Pole, Causes FireJake BauerPublished July 14, 2014 4:40 amCLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Distracted driving was to blame for a one-vehicle accident on 5th Avenue on Sunday night. Clarion-based State Police say around 7:36 p.m., Michael White, 23, of Clarion, was traveling traveling north on South 5th Avenue and attempting to negotiate a right hand turn, just south of Little Lane, when he took his eyes off of the roadway to look at his cell phone. Police say White’s 2012 Nissan Rogue exited the roadway and struck a utility pole, causing a transformer to blow and and the pole to catch on fire. White was not injured. His vehicle sustained disabling damage. White will be cited with a lane violation, according to police. Police shut down 5th avenue for over an hour following the accident.
