Myra “Jane” Snow Bickel

Bickel, MyraMyra “Jane” Snow Bickel, 86, of Oil City passed away on July 20th after fighting a courageous battle.

She passed while in the constant company of her family and friends.

Born on March 2nd, 1928 she was the oldest daughter of Evelyn Withers Snow Williams and Ernest Snow. She attended Cranberry High School.

Jane was the beloved mother of Linda Beers and her husband Raymond of Franklin, Cynthia Newcomb of Hanover , Virginia and Judy Kaufman and her husband James of Oil City. She was adored by her grandchildren: Yvonne Cutchall of Pittsburgh, Sarah Goodyear of Virginia, Tracy Delmonaco and her husband Chris of Oil City, Shannon Cutchall of Pittsburgh, Bryan Kaufman of Sandy Lake, Aaryn Newcomb of Virginia, Jason Newcomb of Virginia and her step- grandchildren Michael Beers, Jason Beers and his wife Julie, and Erica Alcorn and her husband Ed. She was the fun loving great- grand mother to Isaac Kaufman of Oklahoma and eight step great-grandchildren. Myra Jane was the oldest sister to Norma Connor of Ohio, who preceded her in death, Phyllis Farren of Parker, and Charlotte Kowal of Oil City and step sister to Bob, Terry and Cheryl Williams of the Oil City Area.

She will be most remembered by her family for her sweet and caring disposition, her love for cards and board games, her love of walking, and her creative imagination of calling them names such as turkey foot, old pots, and sweet pea. She had a loving compassionate heart and was always willing to help others. Myra Jane was the happiest spending time with her family and friends.

She was a faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church where she just celebrated 50 years of membership. During her membership with Calvary she was a greeter, served as an alter guild and attended Sunday school classes. Jane volunteered to distribute food through the Angel Food Missions and also participated in the secret prayer club. She made several close friends through her years at the church and especially enjoyed the company of Bill and Mildred Bowie of Oil City.

Jane retired from Quaker State in 1987 where she worked in the switch board and Xerox room. Prior to her employment at Quaker State she delivered flowers for Oakwood Rose Gardens, sold Christmas trees, was a waitress at the Rosen’s Bar and Grill, and worked in the cafeteria at Oil City Junior High School.

She was a member of the Oil City YWCA. She enjoyed the fitness center and was participating in aerobics right up to the time of her injury. She was also a member of the Galvanters Club. Jane volunteered to help with several events at the YWCA. In her earlier years she was a champion roller skater with her cousin Don Withers.

She was a breast cancer survivor of eighteen years. She attended the Relay for Life events and wore her pink ribbons with pride.

In addition to her parents and sister, Norma, and step brother Bob, Myra Jane was preceded in death by her Step Father, Samuel Williams.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no public visitation.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial celebrating her life. It will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, located at 115 East First Street in Oil City, on Friday, July 25th at 6:00 pm with Pastor Don officiating. She will be buried beside her parents at Grove Hill Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received, immediately following the memorial, in the home of James and Judy Kaufman at 207 East 7th Street in Oil City.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Calvary United Methodist Church.
