dollar-treeCLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Dollar Tree, located in the former Staples building along Route 68, officially opened for business this morning.

The store occupies approximately 9,000 square feet of the building, a considerable upgrade from its former location in another part of the plaza.

“We’re proud and excited that we continue to grow and excited about the new store opening,” said Spokesperson Shelly Davis in a previous interview with exploreClarion.com’s Ron Wilshire.

Dollar Tree stores are famous for their four foundation or pillar categories, including seasonal, party, health, and beauty aids. It features freezers and coolers in the snack section, with dairy products and various frozen food items.

“The new footprint is kind of in what we call our sweet spot, and this size allows us to showcase our merchandise effectively and have more in the category,” said Davis. “A really simple example I give is that we will always have pretty bags, but will have a lot of pretty bags in every color to pick.”

Dollar Tree’s roots go back more than 50 years when K. R. Perry opened a Ben Franklin variety store in Wards Corner, Norfolk, Virginia. At Macon Brock’s, K.R. Perry’s son, Doug, and Ray Compton’s adventured into $1.00 retailing. A highly successful concept was created using this single price point to build a national chain of stores.

The store, located at 58 Staples Plaza, Clarion, Pa., is open Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
