George Clifton Slike age 62 from North Miami, FL passed away July 14, 2014.
He was raised in Sigel, PA born September 6, 1951 in Pittsburgh, PA and was adopted by Mr. Leonard S. Slike and Mrs. Ruth Ida (Rought) Slike.
He was a graduate of Brookville Area High School, Class of 1969. He attended college and received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Law Enforcement from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, PA. He was a graduate of many specialized programs in counter terrorism, surveillance detection/counter surveillance and security operations.
George C. Slike served over 27 years as a Special Agent with the U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service (DSS). While with DSS, he was assigned to both domestic and international positions encompassing dignitary protection, surveillance detection/counter-surveillance, criminal investigations and physical security.
Mr. Slike was skilled in dealing with officials at local, state, national and international levels. Mr. Slike held instructor certification with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation.
Mr. Slike was well versed in dignitary protection and surveillance detection/counter-surveillance operations. He had served on the protective details for two Secretaries of State and numerous visiting dignitaries. He had also served as Agent-in-Charge of protective details for U.S. Ambassadors in San Salvador, El Salvador, Ankara, Turkey and Beirut, Lebanon as well as providing sole security coordination for the U.S. Middle East Peace Negotiator in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983.
As a member of DSS’s Protective Intelligence Investigations Division, Mr. Slike conducted and supervised protective intelligence operations, to include surveillance detection/counter surveillance, in support of the Secretary of State and high threat protectees both domestic and foreign. Mr. Slike conducted surveillance detection/counter surveillance operations at the Peace Talks at the Wye River Plantation and at the Dayton, Ohio Peace Accord. He had conducted vulnerability assessments, surveillance detection/counter surveillance and security surveys of U.S. diplomatic facilities overseas and managed and supervised 150-200+ person security guard forces at U.S. embassies overseas.
Mr. Slike, was a team leader with the Mobile Training Teams, supervised a 4-6 person unit of highly trained agents responsible for providing counter-terrorism training to U.S. Embassy personnel assigned in critical/high threat locations such as Egypt, Sudan, El Salvador and Haiti. As part of its mission, this unit also responded to U.S. Embassies in crisis to augment security and to provide surveillance detection/counter surveillance capability.
Mr. Slike served as a unit supervisor in the Miami Field Office (MFO) training and mentoring first tour Special Agents in criminal investigations and dignitary protection. During his tenure at MFO, he served as acting Special Agent-in-Charge and acting Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge.
Prior to his service with DSS, Mr. Slike served six years as a police officer with the Montgomery County, MD Department of Police.
Mr. Slike was also a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, Military Police Corps. Mr. Slike retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with 28 years’ service. Mr. Slike had received both Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards in recognition of his service to the U.S. Department of State.
George C. Slike is preceded by his mother and father, Ruth and Leonard Slike and survived by his sister Theresa Slike, nephew Jeremiah Shepard and family (Gretchen, wife and three children Skylar, Michael, and Austin), niece Tiffany Johns and family. A viewing will be held at the McKinney Funeral Home, 345 Main St. Brookville, PA 15825 on July 30, 2014 with calling hours set at 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M.
The funeral service with Catholic mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, Brookville, PA July 31, 2014 at 10 a.m.
George C. Slike will be laid to rest at the St. Dominic’s Catholic Cemetery in Sigel, PA.
