Member_136811Helen M. Schreffler, 89, of Center St., Emlenton, passed away Wednesday morning, July 23, 2014 at her home following and illness.

Born on May 14, 1925 in Windber, Helen was the daughter of the late George and Helen Lechan Makuch. Helen’s family moved to Emlenton and she attended Emlenton schools, graduating in 1942 from Emlenton High School. During World War II she was employed by Quaker State Oil Refining Co. of Emlenton, working in the Research Lab.

She had been a long time active member of the former St. John Reformed Church in Emlenton. Helen was married to Dewey W. Schreffler on February 16, 1946. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2009.

Surviving are two sons, Dewey W. Schreffler III and David M. Schreffler (Mary), both of Emlenton; four granddaughters, Calli McCluskey, Melissa Ierace, Amanda Bengele, and Jamie Biemer; five great grandchildren, Colin and Katie McCluskey, Jacob Ierace, Danny Herr, and Cameron Quinn, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Anne McCracken, eight brothers and two sisters. Helen was the last remaining member of her immediate family.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

A funeral service will follow from the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Tack, a former pastor at St. John Reformed Church, officiating.

Interment will be in the Emlenton Cemetery.
