Baby Killed After Being Run Over in Driveway

SMICKSBURG, Pa. (EYT) — Police say around 4:55 p.m. on July 24, a baby was killed after being run over in a driveway of a private residence in West Mahoning Township, Indiana County.

The Pennsylvania State Police, Troop C, Punxsutawney Station were summoned to a private residence located in West Mahoning Township for a report of an eighteen month female who had been struck by a vehicle.

According to police, the accident occurred in the driveway of the residence.

The investigation revealed the child had crawled under the vehicle while the family was unloading tools. Neither the driver nor the family members realized the child had crawled under the vehicle and was struck by the vehicle while proceeding from the driveway to State Route 954, police say.

The child succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Indiana County Assistant Coroner Chad Dill.

The State Police were assisted with the investigation by Dayton Fire Department, Citizens Ambulance, and the Indiana County Coroner’s Office.
