Officer Sent to Pittsburgh Hospital Following Accidental Shooting in Clarion

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — A media report from Clarion County Office of Emergency Services indicates traumatic injury resulted from a gun shot wound to the hand that occurred around 10:15 p.m. on July 25, at Clarion University Police Building, on Thorn Street, in Clarion.

According to David N. Love, Director, Marketing and Communication, of Clarion University, a Clarion University Public Safety officer accidentally discharged his weapon when preparing to clean and store it.

The discharge resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to the officer who was treated at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

The officer, whose name was not released, is now home and recovering from a gunshot wound to his hand.

As standard protocol the Pennsylvania State Police were asked to conduct an investigation of the incident.
