Roger R. Frantz

Rober R. Frantz–œÃ8 µ Tü~Roger R. Frantz, 86, of Oil City, passed away at Oakwood Heights on Monday morning August 4, 2014.

Born September 15, 1927, he was the son of the late Walter and Stella Reber Frantz of Myerstown, PA.

Roger graduated from Myerstown High School, served in the Navy at the end of World War II and then attended Lebanon Valley College.

He was a manager for F. W. Woolworth Company for 38 years, the last 15 years in Oil City. The lunch counter at Woolworth was a popular gathering place for downtown local merchants during morning coffee break. He retired in 1987 and sold real estate for Dale Wilson Realtors.

For years he was a regular at the card tables at the Elks club and also belonged to the Rotary Club. He was instrumental in starting up the youth football league in Oil City. He loved watching football, reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Roger was a longtime member of Good Hope Lutheran Church where he served as an usher, greeter, lector, and on the finance committee.

He was married to the former Doris Tidd on July 13, 1953.

He is survived by wife Doris and three sons: Thomas and wife Connie, Gary and wife Anne, Glenn and wife Karen; five grandchildren and two great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his son Brian and grandson Thomas II, and a brother and sister.

In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated.

A funeral service will be officiated by the Rev. Philip Scherr and held at Good Hope Lutheran Church, 800 Moran Street, Oil City at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 9th.

Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Hope Lutheran Church or the Salvation Army.
