Gloria J. Pokoj, 63, of 301 West 7th St. in Oil City, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 08, 2014 in the comfort of her home following an extended illness.
She was born in Oil City, PA on November 22, 1950, to the late Victor T. and Mary D. Brzuz. Gloria graduated from Oil City High School in 1968 and attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, before returning to Oil City. She was married to Mr. Edward Pokoj, Jr. in 1976.
Gloria worked in several area restaurants as a waitress for over 20 years, and was well known by her family, friends and neighbors for her talents as a chef and gardener. She was a devoted grandmother, an avid reader, and enjoyed the company of her dogs Clara and Eve.
Gloria is survived by two children, Ms. Jessica A. Stitt and husband Michael, of Oil City, Pa, and Mr. Seth J. Pokoj and wife Jamie of Harmony, Pa; two sisters, Rita Brzuz and Margaret Krosnicki; and five grandchildren, Rikki, Josiah, Fox, and Eleanora Stitt, and Alyssa Pokoj.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and Robert Brzuz, and a sister, Constance Spence.
A private memorial will be held by the immediate family prior to interment at Lamey cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Venango County Humane Society or Community Ambulance Service, Inc. of Venango County. The Reinsel Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
