Born July 29, 1924 in Franklin, Hazel was the daughter of the late Clarence and Jennie (Wells) Harris.
On October 4, 1945 she married John W. Bowen, who preceded her in death on October 2, 1977.

Prior to her retirement on September 17, 1984, Hazel was a Music Therapist at Polk Center; and was a loyal, dependable employee of many other Franklin businesses.

She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Franklin.

She enjoyed children, music, sports, and volunteering at the Barrow Civic Theater, Franklin Hospital, and for anyone or any organization who needed her help. She was often recognized for her service to others.

Hazel is survived by her sons, John W. Bowen III and his wife, Edna, of Seneca, Clarence Robert Bowen of Franklin, David William Bowen and his wife, Heidi, of Franklin, Garrett Richard Bowen of Pittsburgh, and James Edward Bowen and his wife, Lori, of Erie; her daughter, Roxia Boykin and her husband, Stanley, of Kent, Ohio; her thirteen grandchildren; her sixteen great-grandchildren; and her special niece Penny Daniels, and her husband, Tim, and their two children.

Hazel will be missed by all whose life she touched along the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son, Trooper Frank Joseph Bowen.

Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Sunday August 10, 2014 , from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, and on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 10-11 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 1100 Liberty Street, Franklin, with funeral services immediately following visitation at 11 AM, with Rev. Jeff Little pastor of the Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.

In Hazel ‘s memory, memorial donations may be made to the Barrow Civic Theater, PO Box 1089, Franklin, PA 16323 and/or a charity of the donor’s choice.
