Ruth A. Weaver

Ruth A. Weaver, 93, of West Hickory, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 10, 2014, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born February 8, 1921, in Mather, a daughter of the late George and Alice Lewis Baker.

While she was in high school, Mrs. Weaver’s family moved to Michigan, so she lived with an aunt until her graduation from Waynesburg High School in 1939. After graduation, Mrs. Weaver joined her family in Michigan, where she worked for Ford Motor Co. and as a “Rosie the Riveter” for the war effort.

While visiting relatives in Pennsylvania, she met Lloyd Weaver, and, after a brief courtship, they were married May 22, 1943.

Mrs. Weaver was a stay- at-home housewife while she raised her children and helped her husband run the family farm near Lippincott. In 1964, they sold their farm and moved to West Hickory, where her husband worked on Edgar farm and Ruth ran a planer for Cropp Lumber Co.

Mrs. Weaver and her husband built a house on Smokey Hill, living there for several years until moving to Newmansville. They lived there for a time, until her husband’s failing health necessitated a move back to West Hickory, next to their granddaughter, Karlissa Snell.

She was a woman who loved the outdoors. Mrs. Weaver enjoyed planting flowers, working in the yard, building bonfires and playing with the fire. Her other interests included playing bingo and watching Pittsburgh Pirates games. She was seldom alone because there were usually family members at her home.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband of 62 years, Lloyd, who died July 21, 2005; an infant son, Timothy Lloyd; three sisters, Lois Baker, Nellie Baker and Patsy Nickles; two brothers, Wilson Baker and Royce Baker; a granddaughter, Gina Prelog; and a grandson, Gregory Weaver.

Surviving are a son, Allen Weaver of East Hickory and his companion Ginny Curran; three daughters, Janice Hutchinson and husband Bob of Evensville, Tenn., Cheryl Tarr and husband Pat of Leesburg, Fla. and Eleanor Weaver of West Hickory; two brothers, Dale Baker of Olive Branch, Miss., and Art Baker of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Jane Piatt of Washington and Sara Ida Marshbanks of Milford, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Darla Bulls, Bobby Hutchinson, Roger Hutchinson, Tim Prelog, William (Buster) Hall, Karlissa Snell, Tabatha Stivason and Brad Weaver; 17 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Isaac and Levi Bulls, Elijah, Savannah and McKenzie Hutchinson, Hannah and Rachel Hutchinson, Alysha Prelog, Jessie and Dylon Snell, Tricia Johnston, Bryce Weaver, Bradley and Benny Weaver and Nathan and Abby Stivason; and a great-great-granddaughter, Abriella Prelog.

Vickie Stevenson provided special care to Mrs. Weaver and treated her as if she was her own mother.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home, Tionesta, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of service, Thursday, August 14, in Bethlehem Baptist Church, Ruff Creek, with the Rev. David E. Earnest, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Forest-Clarion Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion, PA 16214.
