Allen Edward Wilcox

coxAllen Edward Wilcox, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014, after a two year courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends, at the Oakwood Heights Presbyterian Home, in Oil City, Pa. He is now at peace in the arms of the Lord.

He worked at the former Union City Chair Factory for many years, and also worked at General Electric Company in Erie, Pa., and the former True Temper Corporation of Union City, Pa. He attended Union City High School and was a member of the United States Army, as a cook, stationed in Germany. He was born in Union City, Pa., on November 28, 1944, the oldest son of Eleanor R. Strojny and the late Glennard B. Wilcox.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Howard Strojny, his brother, Richard Wilcox, a nephew, Donald E. “Manny” Conant, and a brother-in-law and good friend, Ralph A. “Bud” Pieper.

Allen is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Linda Lou (Barrett) Wilcox, a son Robbie Wilcox, his mother, Eleanor Strojny, sisters Gay Brown and her husband Jack, and Darlene Pieper and her companion Larry Campbell, sister-in-law Carol Wilcox, and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a very dear friend Judy Prahl.

Allen loved to walk and horseback ride, with his sister and brother-in-law Darlene and Bud Pieper. He was a Cleveland Browns fan, and a huge supporter of the Union City Bears High School Football teams, and attended every home game that he could.

Friends may call on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 2-4, at the Church of the Nazarene, 119 South Main Street, Union City, Pa., and attend a Celebration of Allen’s life immediately following at 4 p.m. Rev. George Tutor will officiate, and interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Union City, Pa.

The Robert M. Glenn Funeral Home, Inc., 62 South Main Street, Union City, Pa., is handling arrangements.
