Phyllis Jean Mitchell, 89, of Ridge Road, New Bethlehem, died on Sunday morning, August 17, 2014, at her home.

Born on December 12, 1924 in Clarion Township; she was the daughter of William and Elsie Elder Rankin.

Jean was married on December 7, 1945 to Walter Lloyd Mitchell, who preceded her in death on December 12, 2012.

She attended the New Rehoboth Greenville Presbyterian Church in Clarion.

In earlier years, Jean enjoyed square dancing and weaving. She also enjoyed boating and traveling. She loved to spend time with her family.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Dr. Dustin Mitchell of Meadville, and Denton Mitchell of Shelocta; and daughter-in-law, Jan Mitchell of Clarion.

Also surviving are two brothers, John Rankin and his wife, Norma, of Orange, TX, and William Rankin and his wife, Joy, of Hemet, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a son, James Mitchell; four brothers, Kenneth Rankin, Ross Rankin, Robert Rankin, and Richard Rankin; and five sisters-in-law, Doris Fowler, Mildred Yates, Ida Belle Gallagher, Doris Rankin, and Connie Rankin.

There will be no visitation.

The arrangements are under the direction of the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion.

Interment will be held in the New Rehoboth Greenville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
