Route 68 Clarion Curve Project Ramping Up

clarion-curveCLARION BOROUGH, Pa. – Utility work is underway on the $3.8 million Route 68 Clarion Curve Project.

Single-lane traffic, controlled by flaggers, are in place during the daytime in Clarion Borough between Trout Run Court and South Street to facilitate utility work on the project.

The safety improvement project includes curve flattening, addition of a center turn lane, and drainage improvements, according to Deborah L. Schreckengost Casadei, PennDot District 10 spokesperson.

The project will take two full construction seasons because of the many utilities that need to be moved and all of the utility work and construction of the road needs to be coordinated to accommodate traffic control.

Two lanes of traffic will be maintained throughout construction, with intermittent short term flagging restrictions (one-lane). A sidewalk will be constructed from the Borough line to the Comet Food Warehouse on the right side of the road.

Six buildings along the curve have been acquired for the project, along with many strip impacts. Some of the property is being obtained through eminent domain, and some of it is being purchased. Eminent domain proceedings have been recorded at the office of the Clarion County Register and Recorder.

PennDot advises motorists to slow down and pay attention to flaggers and traffic control devices in the work zone. Be patient and give yourself extra time for your travels. Drive responsibly in the work zone for your safety and the safety of the workers.

The $3,883,444 safety improvement project is being constructed by Francis J. Palo, of Clarion, and is expected to be completed in September 2016.
