Kennerdell Man Charged with Homicide by Vehicle After Crashing into Elderly Man’s Porch

police-line-300x199FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – State Police in Franklin have filed Homicide by Vehicle and other related charges against a Kennerdell man.

According to court documents, Franklin-based State Police filed the following charges against Michael Lynn Nearhoof, 42, of Kennerdell on August 21:

– Homicide By Vehicle while Under the Influence
– Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance
– Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
– Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol with BAC over .16
– Careless Driving
– Disregard Traffic Lane
– Operating a vehicle without a Valid Inspection

The charges were filed at Magisterial District Judge Snyder’s office in Franklin.

Nearhoof was involved in a fatal accident on July 12 around 6:20 p.m. According to police, Richard B. Mong, 83, of Franklin, was struck by Nearhoof’s vehicle while sitting on his porch along State Route 8 (Pittsburgh Road), near its intersection with Westview Drive, in Sandycreek Township, Venango County. Mong suffered major injuries and was transported to UPMC Hamot, where he passed away 16 days later.

Specific details surrounding the charges have not yet been released.
