strong>FOXBURG, Pa. (EYT) — To represent the summer season, the Red Brick Gallery is exhibiting watercolors. There will be an Opening Reception to meet the artists on Sunday, August 24.

The reception will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to meet botanical painter Donna Edmonds and painter Angela Hardwick.

About Donna Edmonds

Donna Edmonds is a botanical artist who works exclusively in watercolor and focuses primarily on Pennsylvania native plants and insects for her subject matter. Botanical art requires special attention to detail in order to render the subject as correctly and precisely as possible. As a life-long gardener and nature lover, it has been a natural transition to botanical art and pollinating insects.

Her interest in native Pennsylvania plants is inspired by the many area wildflowers. Included in the current exhibit are such plants as Bloodroot, Blue Flag Iris, Trout Lily and many others – all found in the local area and painted from real life specimens. Each painting is accompanied by a description of the plant or insect and its habitat.

Donna has studied Botanical Art and Illustration at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Her work has been exhibited at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Oakland as well as the Phipps Garden Center in Shadyside and other Pittsburgh venues. As a Phipps instructor, Donna teaches Color Theory for watercolor applications as part of the Botanical Art and Illustration Certificate Program. She is a member of the Allegheny Highlands Botanical Art Society and The American Society of Botanical Artists. Donna currently resides with her husband in Parker, PA. She is actively involved in the Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts and its Artists Co-operative the Red Brick Gallery located in Foxburg, PA.

About Angela Hardwick

Angela Hardwick has traveled and painted garden scenes throughout her native British Isle and United Kingdom as well as Europe. Her works will include a variety from Scotland to Devon, Holland and Provence, France and moments in Chautauqua New York along with Feline friends plus a singular Hibiscus. Born in London, England, Angela was exposed to all the arts at an early age and was particularly drawn to music and painting. Eventually, a career in the music business found her managing international conductors and much of her free time was taken up singing and touring with the LSO Chorus. Her job brought her to Western Pa., where she met her husband, Charles, a violinist with the Pittsburgh Symphony, and settled here. Now retired, she at last has the time to indulge her love of painting, along with her other passions, gardening and cooking. The Hardwick’s live with their three amazing cats in Wexford.

About Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts

ARCA established the Red Brick Artist Cooperative in 2011 to provide area artists a suitable venue for the display and viewing of their works, as well as a consignment sales outlet for the members, who all volunteer their time to have the space open to the public. The Gallery’s home is a charming and historic 135 year old building that was once the business office of the Fox family from Philadelphia and the namesake of the Foxburg village.

It was attractively restored in 2004 by its current owners, who are also ARCA members, and became known as The Red Brick. The building also serves as the office of the Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts, a regional non-profit organization fostering the performing arts in the northern Allegheny River valley and encouraging local artists efforts.

The Red Brick is located at 17 Main Street in “downtown” Foxburg and is open on weekends.
