planetariumCLARION, Pa. — Clarion University Department of Physics has planned multiple shows this fall at Donald Peirce Planetarium, inside Joseph P. Grunenwald Center for Science and Technology, Clarion campus.

All are free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

The season begins with “Stars Over Clarion,” an exploration of the stars in the September sky, at 7:00 p.m. on September 4. Subsequent “Stars Over Clarion” presentations, all at 7:00 p.m., are set for October 2, November 6, and December 4, and will explore the stars visible that month.

“Dawn of Astronomy,” a fascinating, 50-minute show tracing the origins of modern astronomy in ancient Egypt, ancient Babylon and ancient Britain, will be presented at 7:00 p.m. on September 19 and 20, and on October 17 and 18.

Clarion’s popular “Season of Light” show is a festive, 40-minute program that traces the development of many of the world’s most enduring holiday customs, from the burning Yule log, sparkling Christmas tree lights and candles in windows, to the lighting of luminaries in the American Southwest and the tradition of the Hanukkah Menorah. Shows are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on December 5 and 12.

The planetarium, which is wheelchair accessible, is on the second floor of the science center. Parking is available in Lot 12, behind Marwick-Boyd Fine Arts Center, and Lot 11, across the street from Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium. The best way to access the planetarium is through the main entrance of the science center on Greenville Avenue.
