saraSCRUBGRASS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Mrs. Sara McNany was born on September 2, 1914, in Scrubgrass Township, PA and is celebrating her 100th birthday.

Sara is the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna Milford of Six Points and one of seven children. Sara and her brother Bill Milford are the remaining members of her immediate family. Growing up, she attended the Byron Center Elementary school and then Emlenton High School, graduating in May 1934.

Sara married the late Charles McNany on December 21, 1934, and they spent 70 wonderful years together. They were blessed with 5 children: Shirley, Russell, Harold, Paul, and the late Charles Ellis and also fortunate to have 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Sara devoted her time taking care of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was the Director of the Scrubgrass Senior Center. She also enjoyed embroidery, sewing, and baking, but her greatest love was quilting and listening to the Pittsburgh Pirates play ball. She made a quilt for each child, grandchild, and great grandchild and many others. She also enjoyed bowling and watching the Professional Bowlers Association.

Sara is the oldest living member of the Scrubgrass Stone Church, where she was a Deacon and Treasurer. She has been a member of the Women’s Missionary Society; Sunday School teacher; Thursday Quilters; Bible School teacher; and assisted with many church functions. She was a PTO president and member of the Emlenton Civic Club and the Scrubgrass Grange.

She was also the Secretary for the Scrubgrass Presbyterian Cemetery Association (Scrubgrass Stone Church Cemetery) for many, many years. She submitted extensive information and records to help create the book “History of the Scrubgrass Stone Church.” The book has been a great source of information for the local cemetery.

She resided at her Emlenton area home until January of this year, when she made the transition to Orchard Manor in Grove City, PA where she has made new friends.

Please join Sara and her family in celebration of her 100th Birthday on August 31, 2014, at the Scrubgrass Stone Church. Pastor Denny Barger will lead the church in worship paying tribute to her at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon hosted by her family.

The family’s wish is for her to receive at least 100 birthday cards. If you are unable to attend and would like to send a card, mail it to:
