Member_137956John W. Gerstner, 65, of Highlands Road, Emlenton, Scrubgrass Twp., went to be with the Lord Saturday, August 30, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.

John was born in Butler on December 13, 1948. He was the son of the late John W. and Kathryn Elison Gerstner.

John had been employed for over 30 years as a Legal Administrative Specialist at the Office of Personnel Management in Boyers, retiring in 2007.

John was a 1966 graduate of Butler High School. He was a longtime member of the Big Bend United Methodist Church, where he had served as treasurer.

John was the cemetery sexton at Big Bend Cemetery for many years, and always took great pride in maintaining the cemetery grounds.

He enjoyed fishing, reading, cooking and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan. John most especially enjoyed the company of his family and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Linda Shoup Gerstner, whom he married at Guiste Pond near Clintonville on August 17, 1996. Also surviving are two children, Jeffery S. Adams of Emlenton and Dawn M. Fletcher, and her husband, Dan, of Emlenton; six grandchildren, Nicolai, Morgan, Michael and his wife, Shannon, Blaine, PFC Dustin and Johnathon; three great-grandchildren, Aurora, RaeLynn and Korbyn; a sister, Kathy Craig and her husband, Dave, of Butler, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Eric J. Gerstner, who died in 2010, as well as a sister, Judy Sagone, who died in 2014.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Big Bend United Methodist Church, 945 Highlands Road, Emlenton.

Funeral services will follow from the church at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Kent O’Neil, pastor of Big Bend United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow at Big Bend Cemetery, Emlenton. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org.
