Clarion won by the first two sets by scores of 25-11 and 25-12 before dropping a tight third set 27-25 but sealed the win by taking home a 26-24 victory in the fourth set.
“It was great win against a team from great conference,” Clarion’s eighth-year head coach Jennifer Mills said. “I hope that we continue to get better and gain confidence as the season goes. Tonight, you have to give Wayne St. a lot of credit. After the first two sets, in which we played well, they made some adjustments that we struggled with. But overall, it was a good first match for us.”
Reigning PSAC West Athlete of the Year Laura Subject set the offense up with 32 set assists while leading the team with 14 digs. Morgan Seybold chipped in 11 digs, while Gabrielle Olson and Abbey Cox each had six kills with Cox adding four blocks and Olson three.
Clarion returns to action with a pair of matches Friday at Tippin Gym. The Golden Eagles face Concord at 11 a.m. and at 7:30 p.m. they take on Walsh.
