small_AntonucciCLARION, Pa. — The Clarion Golden Eagles women’s soccer club moved their record back to .500 with a 4-0 victory over the Pitt- Johnstown Mountain Cats early Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles dominated the entire game against the Mountain Cats. Freshmen Anna Chamberlin and Aaliyah Odom as well as junior Kelly Antonucci all knocked in their first colligate career goals in the game. Chamberlin put the ball into the back of the net 18 minutes into the game, proving to be the eventual game winning goal. Antonucci added a late goal in the first half in the 39th minute. Odom’s goal was the third of the game in the 67th minute. Taylor Starr scored on a header in the 90th minute off of a corner kick.

“It was great [scoring my first goal],” stated Chamberlin. “I played forward in high school so it was nice to kind of get back to where I was in high school.” Chamberlin continued, “The amount of work that you have to put in [at college level] is so much greater and you’re constantly working hard, you’re constantly working with your teammates.”

As a team the Golden Eagles took 20 shots with 11 of them landing on goal. Pitt- Johnstown finished with 12 shots but only a third of them landing on goal. Laura Saussol saved all four UPJ shots in her second shutout of the campaign.

“Finally today I thought we played a really solid game,” said Head Coach Sean Esterhuizen. “There were very few mistakes and the girls worked really hard. Lots of positive good energy and effort. I just said to them [after the game], today was a complete game, and that’s what we’re aiming for. I don’t care about the goals, I care about how we play, and how we work the ball and how were covering them, and the movement off the ball. If they’re getting that right and they’re in their individual positions, then it’s a win.”

The Golden Eagles travel to Slippery Rock University Wednesday night to take on the Rock at 7pm. Clarion returns home next Saturday to face the California (Pa) Vulcans at Memorial Stadium at noon.
