Pauline Irene Smith, 93, of New Bethlehem died Sunday, September 14, 2014 at her home surrounded by her daughters, following a brief illness.
She was born September 6, 1921 in McWilliams, Armstrong County to the late Earl and Mayme (Reddinger) Reichard.
Pauline married M. Karl Smith on January 8, 1943 in Pittsburgh. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2002.
She attended the First United Methodist Church of New Bethlehem. She was a 51 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the New Bethlehem Fire Company Auxiliary.
Pauline enjoyed feeding the birds, observing the happenings of the neighborhood, watching “Wheel of Fortune”, listening to polka music, and playing five different instruments. She also looked forward to the smile and wave of Jared Skinner on his daily walk.
She was fortunate to celebrate her 93rd birthday on September 6 with all of her family in attendance. She held her great, great-granddaughter, who was born on her birthday last year, and played “Happy Birthday” on her harmonica.
Pauline is survived by three daughters: Cynthia L. Smith of New Bethlehem, Shirley S. Shumaker of Beech Creek, and Ellen L. Kline and her husband, Lucky Sr. of New Bethlehem; 8 grandchildren: Paula (Shick) Skarnes of Middleburg, Rhonda (Shick) Roldan of Sandusky, OH, Marcy Shick of Houston, TX, Richard hick, Jr. of Erie, Abby (Shumaker) Bifano of Cleveland, OH, Keli (Kline) Sheffer of New Bethlehem, Lucky Kline, Jr. of New Bethlehem and Heath Cook of New Bethlehem; 10 great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; a sister: Betty Cohlhepp of Erie; and her cat, Betsy.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, David Smith, a son-in-law Sid Shumaker, a grandson, Cody Shumaker, five sisters and eight brothers.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service Chapel, 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Cindy Duffee officiating.
Interment will follow in the New Bethlehem Cemetery.
