As district manager, Gauger will remain in Clarion, working from an office in his home. Initially he will oversee the food service departments at universities in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. Clarion and western Pennsylvania will not be part of his district initially, but they will be added in the future.

“We wish Jeff the best,” said President Karen Whitney. “We are very proud of him and his promotion to district manager, and we look forward to working with him in his new capacity.”

Gauger came to Clarion University in 1999 from the hotel industry. He was hired to manage the residential dining program, with plans to advance to the director position. He is one of just five directors of dining services in Clarion’s history.

Gauger said getting to know everyone on campus has been his favorite part of his job.

“When I accepted the new job, it was bittersweet. I’m happy for the new position, but I will miss a lot of people. This is my family,” he said.

While at Clarion, Gauger led the transition from the former Chandler Dining Hall to the opening of Eagle Commons. He also oversaw the opening and operation of Starbucks, Gemmell food court and Carlson Library, and Crossroads Café at the Venango campus, as well as the operation of Chartwells’ catering and concessions services.

“We have a great team here,” Gauger said of the dining services employees at Clarion. “They make me look good.

“What we have been able to accomplish in our dining services initiatives is largely due to Jeff’s hard-work, Clarion experience and commitment to our institution,” said Harry Tripp, vice president for student affairs. “Our work with him as a regional director will further strengthen Clarion’s strong relationship with Chartwells.”

Gauger is active with Keystone Elk Country Alliance and Pennsylvania’s elk herd. His affiliation with the alliance led to the development of a program for Clarion education majors at the Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette.

Originally from Brookville, Gauger holds an associate degree in accounting and business administration from Dubois Business College. He and his wife, Robin, have three adult children: Brittany, Justin and Michael.
