“Our girls put in an awesome game tonight,” Clarion head coach Sean Esterhuizen said. “This was our finest, most complete game of the season with our team showing exceptional organization.”

Clarion, which was looking to tie The Rock, an NCAA Division II quarterfinalist last year, for the second straight year, and was in position to do so after regulation thanks to another strong performance by senior goalkeeper Laura Saussol, who made 11 saves in just missing her school-record 13th career shutout.

But Brosky ruined the Golden Eagle bid early in the first overtime when she took a corner from teammate, Brooke Edwards in the box and put it past Saussol for her second goal of the season.

Saussol was the star for the Golden Eagles, as Clarion’s offense mustered just three shots in the game including two on goal. Anna Chamberlin and Kalie Davis had the shots for Clarion (2-3 overall, 2-3 PSAC), which has lost twice in overtime this season.

“Our strategy was to absorb their pressure in midfield and then catch them off a fast counter,” Esterhuizen said. “It almost paid off. As disappointed as we were to lose in overtime, I was incredibly proud of how they played. We keep improving, and at this rate, I fully expect us to be challenging for the PSAC Championship at the end of the season.”

Clarion returns to action at Noon Saturday when it hosts California (Pa.) in PSAC play at Memorial Stadium. Admission is free.
