An in-depth look at the 61st Annual Farmer’s National Bank Autumn Leaf Festival. This year’s festival kicks off on Saturday, September 20, and continues through Sunday, September 28.

The 9-day internationally award-winning festival attracts over 500,000 people to the Clarion Area. Events and entertainment include Swank’s Steel City Shows (carnival rides/amusements), Riverhill Battery Warehouse Power Wheels Derby, Cultural Nights, Clarion University’s Homecoming weekend and football game (Gannon), 10K, concerts, as well as all of our major events listed below (with links to their own pages of information). Some events require a registration fee, but there is no admission charge for most of the Chamber’s events.

In addition to the events organized by the Clarion Area Chamber, many local organizations have events during The Farmers National Bank Autumn Leaf Festival™. There are 40 or more additional events occurring during this 9-day period.

GENERAL FESTIVAL INFORMATION

 

FESTIVAL LOCATION: Main Street, Clarion, Pa. 16214

AUTUMN LEAF FESTIVAL™ PARKING: Public parking is available throughout the Borough. Parking for festival events on Friday, September 26, and Saturday, September 27, will be available at the Immaculate Conception School parking lots. Proceeds benefit the School’s P.T.O. and Athletics. For more information call 814-226-8433 or email [email protected]. Private parking options are also available throughout the Borough.

SOUVENIRS AND INFORMATION:  Visit the Chamber office or our booth which will be set up all week on the Clarion County Courthouse lawn. Tumblers/Glasses, t-shirts, sweatshirts, glass steins, shot glasses, umbrellas, and Clarion post cards are available this year. The Chamber will also have limited quantities of past festival tumblers/glasses. For a full listing of ALL past Autumn Leaf Festival™ tumblers, including photos, purchase a tumbler guide.

Young festival-goers will receive their own collectible this year! The Chamber is giving away custom-designed Commemorative Coloring Books and crayons at the following family events: Kids’ Day (Sept. 20), Women’s Healthcare of Clarion “Kiddies Parade” (Sept. 23), Seidle Chevrolet-GMC-Buick “Wild World of Animals Show” (Sept. 23), and the PNC Bank “Junior Olympics” (Sept. 28). The free coloring books and crayons are sponsored by Sherwin-Williams.

FIRST AID AND EMERGENCY INFORMATION: EMS is available as needed. During busy days of The Farmers National Bank Autumn Leaf Festival™, trained professionals travel through the crowds to assist festival goers. Call 911 for emergencies.

SEVERE WEATHER EMERGENCIES: In the event of severe weather, local law enforcement, festival personnel and volunteers will advise as necessary. Also, tune into one of the local radio stations for updates on emergency situations. The stations include C-93 at 92.7 FM, WWCH Radio 13 at 1300 AM, Kool 103.3 FM., Mega Rock at 105.5/100.5 FM, WCUC at 91.7 FM, Q102 at 102.1 FM, ZDB at 95.9 FM, ZDD at 101.3 FM and KQW 96.3 FM/1120 AM.

EMS LOCATIONS: On Sunday, September 21, an ambulance will be located at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Main Street during the S&T Bank “Autorama Cruise In”. On Friday, September 26, EMS personnel will be at the Main Street Center, 516 Main Street, during the Clarion Industries “Farmers & Crafters Day.” On Saturday, September 27, EMS personnel will be available at the Main Street Center, 516 Main Street, during the Clarion Hospital “Tournament of Leaves Parade”.

BABY CHANGING STATIONS: In addition to emergency services, baby changing areas are located in the handicap portable toilets near the corners of Main Street & 5th Avenue and Grant Street & Jefferson Place.

HANDICAP PARKING LOCATIONS: Handicap parking can be found at the corners of Main Street & 6th Avenue and the Fireman’s Lot at 525 Wood Street.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2014

UNITED WAY 30TH ANNUAL 5K AND 10K RACE: On Saturday, September 20, the 30th Annual Clarion County United Way 5K & 10K Race takes place. The course begins at Clarion University Memorial Stadium and runs along the beautiful streets of downtown Clarion. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with the race starting at 9:00 a.m. $2,400 will be awarded to the top 3 male & female finishers in each race.

BIKE MS: 2014 COOK FOREST RIVER RIDE: The National Multiple Sclerosis Society Bike MS: 2014 Cook Forest River Ride will be held on Saturday, September 20, at Cook Forest State Park, Cooksburg, PA. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. for the 60 mile ride and at 8:30 a.m. for the 35 mile ride. Start time is 30 minutes after registration. CLARION PSYCHIATRIC CENTER “CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT”: The popular backyard game returns to this year’s Farmers National Bank Autumn Leaf Festival™! The Clarion Psychiatric Center “Cornhole Tournament” will be held on Saturday, September 20, in front of the Clarion County Courthouse. Registration will be from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., with the tournament starting at 4:00 p.m. The winning two-person team will take home $500, 2nd place wins $300, 3rd walks away with $150, and 4th place will receive $50. Pre-registration deadline is September 13, which guarantees a t-shirt; registration will be accepted the night of the event, but you will not be guaranteed a t-shirt. We ask that you bring a non-perishable item to benefit the Clarion County Community Bank FOODSTOCK.

ADVANCED DISPOSAL “TOUCH-A-TRUCK”: Put your imagination in high gear and go! Kids of all ages will get a chance to get behind the wheel and rub elbows with their hometown heroes. Big rigs, cars, tractors, construction vehicles… the possibilities are endless! With entertainment, food and activities, this popular event is great family fun for everyone.

Advanced Disposal “Touch-A-Truck” will be held Saturday, September 20, in the Clarion Mall parking lot from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Although a FREE event, we ask that you bring a non-perishable item to benefit the Clarion County Community Bank “Foodstock.” Sponsored by Advanced Disposal.

Q102/ZDD/ZDB “KIDS’ CARNIVAL”: Come to the Clarion Mall on Saturday, September 20th, for the Q102/ZDD/ZDB “Kids’ Carnival.” The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with games, activities, clowns, and more family fun! This year’s carnival will feature entertainment from award-winning family magician Al Mazing as well as balloon fun with Ben’s Balloons. WOLF’S AUTO OUTLET “POWER WHEELS™ DERBY”: Bring out your Power Wheels™ for a fun filled derby on Saturday, September 20, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Clarion Mall beside JC Penney. A.B.A.T.E. MOTORCYCLE DICE RUN: On Saturday, September 20, Clarion County A.B.A.T.E. is hosting its annual Motorcycle Dice Run to benefit Clarion County Community Bank FOODSTOCK. At $10.00 a person donation or $15.00 per couple donation, participants have five places to stop and roll 5 dice to go for a high or low roll total. There is a cash prize for the best high and the best low roll. Sign in from 10 a.m. — 12 p.m. at the Clarion Eagles, Greenville Pike and Stone House Road. The run takes place rain or shine. The competition will have you tapping your toes and dancing along to the music. The event will also include contests for guitar, banjo, and mandolin. MCDONALD’S “MOTORCYCLE SHOW”: The 16th Annual McDonald’s Motorcycle Show will be held on Sunday, September 21. There is no registration fee, and all makes, models, and classes are welcome. The show takes place from 7th Avenue to Weaver Place in Clarion and runs from 12:00 p.m. — 4:00p.m. Parking begins at 9:00 a.m. Commemorative Patches will be available for purchase at the event. These FREE rides depart from the Fire Hall at 525 Wood Street on Wednesday, September 24, and are offered from 5 p.m. to dusk.

COMMUNITY FIRST BANK AND CLARION UNIVERSITY CULTURAL NIGHT: Love to sing? Enjoy hearing praise and worship songs? Want to gather your parish family together for a great event? Then we have just what you are looking for!
The Community First Bank and Clarion University “Cultural Night” will once again be hosting a Community Hymn Sing on Wednesday, September 24, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This year’s Community Hymn Sing also includes performances by bagpiper Shawn Gority. The University’s television and radio stations will broadcast live from downtown Clarion at the Gazebo in Memorial Park during The Farmers National Bank Autumn Leaf FestivalTM. Items will be given away during the event. WCUC 91.7 FM Radio is the student-operated radio station; WCUB TV Television is the university’s hometown station broadcasting on Comcast channel 15. Even if you can’t be there every day for The Farmers National Bank Autumn Leaf Festival™, tune in to keep up with the excitement, courtesy of the Clarion University media organizations!

CULTURAL NIGHT: Community First Bank and Clarion University “Cultural Night” takes place in front of the Courthouse from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25. CLARION UNIVERSITY HOMECOMING “PEP RALLY”: The Clarion University annual homecoming Pep Rally takes place on Thursday, September 25, in Tippin Gymnasium. CLARION UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION HOMECOMING PARADE RECEPTION: The Clarion University Alumni Association Homecoming Parade Reception takes place Saturday, September 27, in the Walter Hart Chapel parking lot on the Clarion University Campus from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon. This year’s parade reception will be filled with tons of activities for the family. There will be activities for kids, live music, a fun photo opportunity and a chance to meet the Clarion University mascot. Visit with various alumni groups, academic departments and campus groups at their tables. Commemorative event pins for all. Alumni and their family will enjoy complimentary hot dogs, popcorn, blue and gold cotton candy and drinks. Don’t forget to check out the history club’s open house in Founders Hall.

CLARION HOSPITAL “TOURNAMENT OF LEAVES PARADE”: Join Clarion as it celebrates all it has to be proud of during the Clarion Hospital “Tournament of Leaves Parade” on Saturday, September 27. The parade showcases marching bands, floats, and organizations of the grandest kind! This year’s Grand Marshal will be Rear Admiral Craig S. Faller, Chief of Legislative Affairs for the Secretary of the Navy. Parade steps off at 12 Noon on Main Street. Farm, garden, lawn, implement, hit & miss engines, and toys are welcome—anything farm related! Pre-registration is requested, but participants are welcome the day of the show. Trophies will be awarded in several classes. There will be free barrel train rides for the children, too! In the days leading up to the tractor show, visit Northwest Savings Bank Main Street Clarion branch for a sneak peak of a Hit & Miss display!

Back again to perform throughout the tractor show will be Next O’Kin, a gospel & country group from southern Clarion County. This ensemble is a family band that enjoys being together, blending their voices in song, and sometimes laughing at their own slip-ups. Whether performing at churches, nursing homes, or community events, they encourage their audience to join them in singing familiar praises and old country tunes.

Although a FREE event, we ask that you bring a non-perishable item to benefit the Clarion County Community Bank FOODSTOCK.
In addition to this event there will also be pedal go-kart rides on Main Street on the corner of Main and 4th avenue. These Berg USA, LLC pedal go-karts out of Lititz, PA are being brought to the festival by the Clarion 4H Club. Various designs and sizes of pedal go-karts will be at the event for children to ride. PNC BANK “JUNIOR OLYMPICS”: Kids, have you ever dreamed of winning an Olympic gold medal? Your chance is finally here! On Sunday, September 28, children between the ages of 5-12 who live in or attend school in Clarion County are invited to go for the gold. Children will compete against children of the same age and gender. Each child will participate in 4 events–Standing Long Jump, Dash, Softball Throw, and the Modified Javelin Throw. The top 3 performers in each event (for the age and gender category) will receive a medal, and anyone who participates all day will receive a ribbon. Refreshments will be provided for the children. Do not miss your chance to make your Junior Olympic dreams come true! The games will be held at the Clarion University Stadium from 1:30 p.m. — 3:30 p.m. with sign in beginning at 12:30 p.m. Members of the U.S. Army, and Clarion sports teams will be supervising the day’s events. FOOD CONCESSIONS: Be sure to bring your appetites for the food concession stands. There are a wide variety of foods that are sure to please everyone, so prepare your taste buds and try them all! Look for your favorites – those beloved funnel cakes, stromboli, cinnamon rolls, gyros, Philly steak sandwiches, apple dumplings, chicken on a stick, pizza, taffy, hot sausage sandwiches, French fries—and find new fare, like burritos, turkey burgers, and grilled cheese! These tempting morsels can be found in the Clarion County Memorial Park and along Main Street. Picnic tables are located throughout the Memorial Park so you can have your dessert, too!

AMUSEMENTS BY SWANK’S STEEL CITY SHOWS: Feel like a kid again with Swank’s Steel City Shows – rides and games that appeal to all ages. Swank’s has provided high quality entertainment for over 25 years and strives to provide the best family fun. Swank’s has an excellent safety record, and all of their equipment is well maintained according to manufacturers’ guidelines. Swank’s also provides fun games with great prizes. CLARION COUNTY COMMUNITY BANK “FOODSTOCK”: By proclamation of the Clarion County Commissioners, September is “FOODSTOCK” Month in Clarion County. The Mayors of Clarion, Foxburg, Knox, and Strattanville have also named September “FOODSTOCK” Month. So, clean out your cupboards for this great cause!

Clarion County Community Bank “Foodstock” is a countywide food drive that collects non-perishable, non-expired food items, benefiting thirteen local food banks. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a well-stocked cupboard—please help out!
