Edna E. Swartfager

afe04ac6d769f20f (1)Edna E. Swartfager, 84, of the Village of Monroe near Knox, passed away early Monday morning, September 29, 2014, at the Clareview Nursing and Rehab Center in Sligo.

Born October 22, 1929, in Cherry Run, PA, she was the daughter of Jesse Jewel and Ruth Ellen (Greenwalt) Stitt.

On April 14, 1961 Edna married Harold Lee Swartfager who preceded her in death on April 30, 1998.

In her early years, Edna worked at Warren State Hospital, Clarion Osteopathic Community Hospital, A.S.R Supply and the former County Home now known as Clareview.

She also worked for many area families taking care of their loved ones.

Edna then worked for Clarion University as a house mother, know by many as “Mrs. Ed” until her retirement on January 24, 2003.

Edna was of Protestant Faith and attended Grace Community Church in Curllsville and Bethany Crossroads Church near Knox until her decline in health prevented her from doing so.

She was also a member of the Monroe Community Center where she loved helping with the annual sauerkraut supper.

Edna enjoyed putting together puzzles, embroidering, gardening and visiting with family and friends.

Surviving are her five children, Benji (Patsy) Stitt of Rimersburg, Debbie Jo (Bob) Snyder of Curllsville, Ken (Kim) Swartfager of Knox, Marlene ( Joe ) Hartzell of Curllsville and Roger ( Kelly ) Swartfager of Knox, eleven grandchildren, Tristan Craig, Gary Jr. (Missy) Craig, Thomas (Sheila) Craig, Matthew (Lisa) Craig, Dustin (fiancé Annie) Swartfager, Derek (Torri) Swartfager, Justin (Becky) Hartzell, Meagan (Jason) Kriebel, Kyle Swartfager, Hannah Swartfager and Jed Beichner and 20 great grandchildren and one on the way.

Also surviving, are two brothers Connel Stitt and Gary Stitt, two sisters, Meriam Shook and Marjorie Horner, several brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and a special friend Dave (Curly) Cessna.

In addition to her husband and parents Edna was preceded in death by two brothers Edgar and Ronald and a sister Patricia Hawk.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, 504 East Penn St., Knox, Pa.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Chris Lewis officiating.

Interment will follow at the St. Marks Cemetery in Monroe. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Charitable Deeds, 98 Hickory Nut Lane, Knox PA 16232 or the Knox Library, PO Box 510, Knox PA 16232.
