sherwood hawkSherwood Neil Hawk, age 66, of New Bethlehem, died, Thursday evening, September 25, 2014 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Oakland.

Born October 28, 1947 in New Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Bernard George Hawk and Edwina Gertrude Ramsey Hawk.

He was a 1966 graduate of the Redbank Valley High School and served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Sherwood, graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and for several years worked in Sandusky, Ohio, as an airplane mechanic.

He then returned to Pennsylvania and worked as a heavy equipment operator in the coal business for many years.

In the mid-1980’s he purchased a seafood restaurant in Pensacola, Florida and remained in Florida until returning home to care for his mother in her later years.
Sherwood enjoyed singing. He was a long time choir member of the First United Methodist Church of New Bethlehem, singing bass, and was a member of the VFW, LOOM and FOE Clubs, all of New Bethlehem.

He was formerly married to Shanelle Hawk.

He was a generous and loving father, grandfather and friend.

Sherwood leaves to this earth the loves of his life, his daughter and granddaughters: Erin Hawk Boyer, Savanna Rose Boyer and Nevada Shanelle Boyer, along with numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2014 at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service Chapel, 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, 234 Penn Street, New Bethlehem, where Pastor Gene Lenk, a pastor of the Redbank Valley United Methodist Ministry, will officiate over the service.

Military honors will be accorded by the Walter W. Craig American Legion Post #354 of New Bethlehem.

Interment will follow in the New Bethlehem Cemetery.
