Thomas N. Stiles Jr.

Thomas N. Stiles, Jr., of Oil City, retired J.C. Penney manager, died Thursday night, October 2, 2014, after a brief illness.

Born in Bridgeton NJ, he was a son of Thomas N. Stiles, Sr. and Stella Loveland Stiles.

Mr. Stiles graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden NJ.

He was drafted into the US Army and served for three years as a company clerk in a portable surgical hospital in the South Pacific.

Mr. Stiles began his working career with the Penney Company while in high school. Returning after service, he worked for them for 43 years.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City.

Mr. Stiles has been active in the local community. He served on the board of directors of the Oil City YMCA, Venango County Credit Bureau, Venango County Easter Seals Society, United Way, the Oil City Chamber of Commerce, the Association for the promotion of Oil City and the Oil City Rotary Club, which he was secretary.

He loved the Nittany Lions football and basketball teams and had season tickets for years. He played handball and racket ball at the YMCA, enjoyed a good game of golf and loved going to his granddaughter’s basketball and soccer games.

He was married to the former Patricia A. Rodgers of Fredericksburg VA, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Deborah Moore and husband David of Titusville; and one granddaughter, Shannon Marie Moore, who he loved dearly.

Also, surviving are two sisters, Shirley Howey and Charlotte Hird of Collingwood NJ; one sister-in-law, Shirley Sullivan of Fredericksburg VA; 3 nieces and 1 nephew.

There will be no visitation, funeral services will be for the family.
