Opal A. Blauser

Opal-Blauser-1413209704Opal A. “Grammy” Blauser, 102, went home to Heaven on Sunday, October 12th after a long and fulfilled life.

Born August 23, 1912 in Fryburg to the late Earl and Grace Morrison Fry, Opal lived her whole life in Venango County.

When in her 20s, Opal and her fiancé Emmett Blauser decided to elope, taking only her mother with them as the witness.

Opal proudly volunteered as a civilian airplane spotter for the Army Air Force’s Ground Observer Corps when WWII broke out.

She worked her whole life as a care taker, wife, and mother while assisting her husband at their compressor station in Fertigs.

Opal had many hobbies including baking, crocheting baby blankets, sewing Christmas stockings, cheering on the Pittsburgh Pirates, and taking her annual motorcycle ride on her birthday. She was also the longest standing member of Heckathorn United Methodist Church in Seneca.

Grammy believed in a hard day’s work and to always treat others as you wanted to be treated. She was a wealth of knowledge of our past and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Jamie Ahrens Nevel and Ashley Ahrens Chase; two great-grandsons, Eric Ahrens-Show and Ethan Nevel; and countless friends and family members.

In addition to her parents and husband, Opal was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, Lelia Williams, Shirley Klapec, Mildred Stanley, Ruby Stine, Leota Felmlee, John Fry, Doris Fry, Paul Fry, and an infant brother; and two daughters, Rhonda Ahrens and an infant daughter.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Oakwood Heights nursing home for their many years of loving care.

A celebration of life is planned for Monday, October 20th at 5 pm at Heckathorn United Methodist Church. Please join the family in sharing special memories of Opal’s life.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Heckathorn United Methodist Church.
