The students in Mr. Hale’s 4th grade class have been learning about the human digestive system in science class. In order to understand other digestive systems in animals, the class learned the digestive system of owls.
To enhance the lessons, WCO Dan Schmidt and Cadet Brandon Pfister visited their class. They brought owl mounts of various owls native to the state of Pennsylvania. The students listened to different owl calls.
As a highlight of their visit, the students were able to investigate owl pellets, which are filled with the remnants of small creatures that are part of the owl’s diet. The students found bones, skulls, and beaks of different rodents and birds.
