Member_139482Mary Grace Winger, 77, of Oil City, died at 9:09 a.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at her home, surrounded by loving family and friends.

She was born on June 1, 1937 in Lucinda, Clarion County, to the late John and Agnes (Hartle) Groner.

She was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School in Oil City.

Mrs. Winger was a member of St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Oil City where she belonged to the Rosary Society.

Mary enjoyed knitting and crocheting, doing cryptograms and puzzles, and the company of her family and grandchildren.

She was employed as a secretary at the Glass Plant in Rouseville, and also worked as a teacher’s aide for St. Stephen School and the Grant Street School. She was a well known waitress at Famoore’s Restaurant in Oil City, and also served as a crossing guard for the Oil City school district.

She was married in St. Stephen Church on July 30, 1960 to Lester J. Winger, and he preceded her in death on May 8, 2001.

Surviving are four children, Michael Winger of Oil City, Sharon Sutley and her husband John of Cranberry, Theresa Daugherty and her husband Robert of Franklin, and Rita M. Murray and her husband Mark of Sugarland, Texas; and fifteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five sisters, Rita Groner of Erie, Jean Marie Shaffer of Harborcreek, Jane Wright and husband Chuck of Seneca, Judith Groner of Reno, and Helen Strickenberger of Erie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Her special friends include John “Charley” Earp, Curt, Becky, Caleb and Katie Bish, Carolyn and Cathy Lambert, and Terry and Sarah from the Area Aging Agency. Mary’s family would like to extend a special thanks to AseraCare Hospice for their care and compassion.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Gary Winger; a brother, John Groner; and a sister, Germaine Groner.

Friends will be received Tuesday (Oct. 21) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday (Oct. 22) at 11 a.m. in St. Stephen Church, 21 State Street in Oil City, with the Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Rockland Cemetery.
