CLARION, Pa. — The Clarion County Library System was awarded a grant of $1,235.00 from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts to support and promote the library system’s Painting with a Purpose Art Show & Auction.

The auction will be held on Friday, November 7, at the American Legion Hall on Main Street in Clarion at 6:00 p.m.

The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts is a state funded program to promote the arts in public life and to publicize the work of artists living and working in the Commonwealth. The Clarion County Library System applied for and received funding to underwrite the cost of its biennial art show and auction fundraiser.

“Painting With a Purpose” is designed to work with local artists and students from Clarion County schools to publicly display art prior to the auction in order to promote a discussion and appreciation of the arts. The auction is a fundraiser that benefits all the public libraries in Clarion County by raising funds to support the libraries’ Summer Reading Programs for children and teens in the county.

Admission to “Painting with a Purpose” is $10.00 per person and artists will be in attendance at the event to speak with guests about their work.

Light refreshments will be provided, and a cash bar is available.

The live auction of artwork will begin at 7:00 p.m. Local auctioneer, Gary Rankin, and his staff will be auctioning off chairs and other decorative items that have been painted to the theme of popular children’s books.

Additionally, works in other mediums will be displayed and auctioned. Paintings and prints, ceramics, glass, folk-crafts, and wood work are among the items available for view and purchase.

The “Painting With a Purpose” Art Show & Auction is an opportunity for the public to enjoy an evening of socializing and auction fun while supporting the work of local artists and the educational programs at local libraries.
