e7f77daa79163f24 On Tuesday, October 21, 2014, DeWayne L. Vogan, 87, of Meadville, passed from his earthly home into his heavenly home surrounded by his family who loved and adored him.

He was born September 1, 1927 at home in Franklin, PA a son of John Smith and Vernice Young Vogan. He married Maxine Malliard December 29, 1945 and they have enjoyed 68 years of marriage. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army in Germany. He worked at Talon for 45 years retiring in 1989. He was retired for 2 days before going to work at West Mead Recycling, then at Greendale Cemetery, various janitorial jobs in the area including Proper Cutter, Inc. in Guys Mills. He was known as “Beaver” Vogan by all he worked with because he was always busy as a beaver. He had a wonderful work ethic and was always an extremely hard worker. He was a lifetime member of Harm Jan Huidekoper VFW Post #2006 and member of Meadville Eagles Aerie #429. He enjoyed camping, cooking, hunting, bowling at the Eagle’s Club, playing cards and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He especially enjoyed the many family trips to the Outer Banks, NC.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Maxine, of 68 years, include: six children, Barbara Schutz and her husband Kenneth of Meadville, Judy Ferrari and her husband George of Guys Mills, Connie Proper and her husband Larry of Guys Mills, Jim Vogan and his wife Mary of Meadville, Sherry Heath and her husband Barry of Townville and Karen Malone of Meadville; seventeen grandchildren, Diane Gulland, Bud Schutz, Steven Schutz, Melissa Proper, Todd Ferrari, Stacey Ewing, Lisa Chausse, Andrea Mailliard, Cindy Doyle, Daryl Vogan, John Vogan, Marie Lockwood, Rebecca Vogan, Jenny Leonhart, Jeremy Heath, Shane Malone and Timmy Malone; 29 great grandchildren and one due in February; one great great grandchild; two brothers, Jack Vogan of South Carolina and Donald Vogan of Franklin and numerous nieces and nephews including Bus Malliard and Sandy and Bud Harvey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Bates and Dorothy Lippert.

Calling hours will be Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville. The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville with Rev. Temple Jarrell, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Kiser Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Harm Jan Huidekoper VFW Post #2006, 1045 S. The funeral service will be Saturday, October 25th at 11 a.m. at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville with Rev. Temple Jarrell, officiating.

Interment with military honors will be in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
