Rose Marie Swonger

Rose Marie Swonger, age 91, of Pine City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, October 26, 2014 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Larry Rapp, where she has resided for the last 8 years.

Born August 26, 1923 at home in Strobleton, Clarion County, she was a daughter of the late Maurice and Catherine Hahn Licht.

She was formerly married to Shirl Kapp, Sr, who preceded her in death and was married to William “Bill” Shirey and Floyd Swonger, who both preceded her in death.

Rose attended the Church of God most of her life and was a lay minister. She was a member of the Callensburg Church of God, a past Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent and was a member of the church’s Willing Workers.

She was very proud to have completed four years of Latin and received many certificates for her writing abilities.

Earlier in life, Rose was an aid at the Clarion Osteopathic Community Hospital, worked for Kahles at Northeast Vineyard for close to 20 years tying grapes and was a bookkeeper for Shirl Kapp Trucking. She also worked for the Magic Forest Tourism Bureau.

She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates Fan and bowler. Rose enjoyed gardening, sewing and doing word searches. She also loved to read her Bible, reading it thru over and over until it fell apart.

Survivors include her children: Elizabeth “Betty” Boocks of Golden Living Center, Shippenville; Dennis “Denny” Kapp and his wife, Jackie, of Franklin; Terry Kapp of North Carolina; Joy Rapp and her husband Reverend Larry “Wink” Rapp, of Pine City; Jack Kapp of Pine City and Marcy Simpson and her husband, Will, of Marble; 21 grandchildren: Jerry, Carl and Matthew Boocks, Annett Roberts, Donna Hill, Tony Kapp, Jared Kapp, Karie Lopato, Tracie Rutherford and Jimmy Kapp, Andy and Helena Kapp, Deanna Flowers, Kelly and Dustin Rapp, Tyler Kapp, Nichole Schill, Kyle and Brandon Kapp, Dalton and Hannah Hill; 19 great grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Rose is also survived by a brother and sister, Clyde Licht and Gloria Eisenman.

In addition to her parents, husbands and former husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Shirl “Sonny” Kapp, Jr. and granddaughter, Amanda Hill; sibling: Russell, Cletus, Dick, June, Helen, Doris, Kay and Grace; daughters-in-law: Sandy Rex Kapp and Donna Garner Kapp and brother-in-law, Dwight Boocks.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the Callensburg Church of God, 214 Scott Street, Callensburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, in the church with Reverend Thomas Hannold, friend of the family, will officiate over the service.

Interment will follow in the Perry Chapel Cemetery in Pine City.

In lieu of flowers, Rose requested that all memorials be made to the Callensburg Church of God, P.O. Box 141, Main Street, Callensburg, PA 16213.
